RADIANT HEAT FACTS
Radiant Heat
- The major source of heat flow that enters our homes in summer and escapes our homes in the winter is energy in the form of infrared rays.
- It travels at the speed of light, even through a vacuum, and is either transmitted through, absorbed into or reflected by any material it contacts.
Radiant Heat Barrier Insulation
- Reduces heating and cooling costs
- Increases comfort levels
- Makes your home or building more energy efficient
- Keeps heat IN during the winter
- Keeps heat OUT during the summer
- Non-toxic and maintenance free
- Was originally developed by NASA for astronaut space suits
Retrofit Attic Installation
If any of the following conditions exist, your attic will benefit from a radiant barrier:
- A hot attic space that reaches 150°F or higher.
- Attic insulation is aged, compacted, or minimal.
- Roof shingles are dark colored or asphalt.
- Second story rooms are hot.
- Air ducts are located in the attic space.
- The air handler is located in the attic space.
- Few or no trees shade the house.
ARMA FOIL™
- Double sided (multi layered with aluminum on both sides) for maximum heat reflection in both summer and winter.
- Made of polyethylene which typically has a better flame and smoke performance than materials made with polypropylene.
- With over 80 lb/in tensile strength, is one of the strongest most durable radiant barrier materials available.
- A perforated radiant barrier for use in attics, walls, house wraps and more.
Insulation Tax Credits
Residential customers can receive a tax credit of 30% of the cost of material up to $1,500 total credit, when you purchase qualifying products in 2009 for use in your residence. The residential applications that qualify for this credit are attics, walls, and crawl spaces.
The "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008" extended the tax credits for energy efficient home improvements which expired in 2007. Federal tax credits will be given for qualifying improvements made during 2009. On February 17, 2009 President Obama signed the stimulus bill "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009" increasing many of the tax credits.
